They were the adventurers, the dreamers of yesterday. Sent by the unified nations of a planet at peace and on the verge of scientific breakthroughs, these brave men and women were selected to travel far beyond the edge of creation that was known and explore the unknown. Their destination was so brilliantly far off that they knew nothing but coordinates. Their plans hung on prayers and faith, depending on a perfect coordination of events completely out of their control. And their mission? It was the dream of every schoolboy and dreaming girl, lost in the worlds of books and fantasy.

They were the adventurers, the dreamers of yesterday. And they arrived late. Far too late.

Lost in history as the travelers who died for what they believed in, their fates were sealed in printed letters and solemn news reports. But far from the truth this was, for these men and women were simply cut off and lost, drifting through the vastness of the deep black, floating through space eternal.

When their ship arrived at the planet for which they had departed so many millennia ago, they awoke from their slumber, believing themselves to still be on the cusp of adventure, the dawn of a new age. When their ships landed upon the surface, they stumbled out excitedly for they were the future!

To their horror, they discovered ruins. Abandonment. The fallen towers of a civilization millennia extinct. Immediately, they went searching for clues, information, for anything at all to give them some information or background. But something about the wreckage was unnerving. It was far too familiar, far too real. Their worst fears were nothing compared to what they felt when they discovered words scrawled along the walls of an old transportation hub, reading, “Welcome Travelers!”

For while they had slept, mankind had awoken. While they dreamt, mankind lived. And while they flew, mankind fell. Welcome home, travelers. It’s been a long journey.
I realized that QR can stand for quick-write, but also for quick-read! Which is great, because that is all I'd really like from you guys. Just give it a quick read and some thoughts ^.~ I always appreciate the feedback!
Anywho, I've been in a classic sci-fi funk. That sort of vibe you get from early science fiction, when Venus was still covered in rainforests and Mars had canals stretching from sea to shining red sea. It's a fun world to write in, because honestly, anything is possible and no dream is too crazy. I do enjoy writing from that world. But of course, the hard stuff always seeps through. Think...a blend of modern and classic? I don't really know..maybe I give myself too much credit with that.
If you'd like some sweet classic sci-fi, there is a fantastic book. Very short, very fun, spectacular in scope.
Tau Zero by Poul Anderson. Splendid little book.

Anyways, I actually plan to come back to this after I finish my current work. It is the rough and loose idea for another novella. I love the idea of travelers lost in space, drifting in cryo-sleep and awakening in a new world. Once again, lots to play with, lots to create!

BUT! I would positively LOVE to see someone's own interpretation of this! Especially some concept art or the like. I have a soft spot for concept sci-fi landscapes. Beautiful stuff when done right! *dreamy sigh*

Inspiration? A good, long, hot shower, and just talking about the stars with a good friend of mine. Dreams have a funny way of sprouting up from the vaguest mentions...

I hope you enjoyed, and well, thank you for bearing with me dear Watchers.
Much appreciated ^.~

Ciao,

P.S. My loyal reader following of one thinks this will hit the front page of DA. I have a feeling that won't even happen again after that whole poetry escapade...ehehe....but I would appreciate you sharing this with friends if you think they would like. Thanks again! ^.~

Quite an opening. Hope you get into characters for your next installment and some dialog. Always makes the story much more enjoyable.
